About the WSA
The Welsh Sailing
Association (WSA) was launched in September 2006 by a group of enthusiastic
volunteers. The general aim is :
a)
To provide a reliable and useable media platform for clubs and
individuals to use for publishing and finding information relevant to
their sport.
b)
To conduct regular surveys amongst clubs and coaches and publish their
findings in an unbiased way.
c)
To provide a crystalised and united voice as an association to petition
the RYA and other influential agencies who make key decisions and
provide funding.
d)
To assist clubs in the raising of money, sourcing of and application for
grants and lottery funding.
e)
To raise the profile of the often overlooked and undervalued volunteers
by helping them gain recognised qualifications and further their
vocational prospects in a way that suits them.
f) To reward the
efforts of clubs in the field of information technology and web
publications. Awarding those websites Information Awards based
upon a number of criteria.
Is the WSA a
replacement for the Welsh Yachting Association (WYA)?
No. The WYA is funded by several government and national bodies and
is primarily concerned with the promotion and training of youth only
classes. The WSA is more a cooperative of members. We aim to
provide much a much needed media platform for all clubs to use. By
listening to clubs and their needs we can help them form a larger voice
with which to make the changes they need most.
Finally...
It is vitally
important to us that you understand what the WSA is about. As a new
association we need to prove our worth and determination to work hard for
you. We ask for no money from clubs to affiliate with us and
emphatically encourage any and every sailing club, rowing club and
individual to become a member and show their united support. We
believe that unless a publicly visible voice is presented to the powers
that be, Welsh sailing development will continue to be hampered by
complicated and unattainable funding sources, poorly coordinated national
training programmes and undervalued and forgotten volunteers.
Thank you
The WSA Team
